Yellow Daisys Painting

Painting of Yellow Daisy's bought at an art auction in LA, year unknown. Signature appears to say Helen McCarthy - its a canvas painting with writing on the back. I was able to find the address on back as "Malcom" - the M is written very oddly, so thought that was a point worth sharing. It's in good condition.

Hello Alana, Thank you very much for submitting your painting for an online appraisal and for your patience. The presented object appears to be an oil on canvas painting depicting a bouquet of yellow daisies in a somewhat abstract and impasto style. The canvas measures approximately 19.5 x 15.5 inches and is signed (vertically) on the lower left corner of the composition. The signature and inscription on the back of the piece appears to read "Helen McCarthy" and the piece looks to be in good condition overall. There is an artist with an auction record by the name of Helen Kiner McCarthy (American, 1884-1927) who was known for Mediterranean scenes and some floral still-life works: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/31088166_helen-kiner-mccarthy-1884-1927-oil-on-canvas However, the signature on your painting is quite different and I do not believe that it is of the same skill level as the work that I've seen from Helen Kiner McCarthy, so I do not think that it can be attributed to this artist. More likely, your work is by an amateur artist with a very limited or nonexistent auction record. I would therefore estimate the current fair market value of the work at $100 to 150, though retail and asking prices may vary. Thank you again for submitting your item and please let me know in the comments section below if you have any questions. Have a great day! Kind regards, Anne
