The appraised work appears to be a watercolor and ink on paper composition, executed by Indian artist Abanindranath Tagore (1871-1951). The work depicts The Buddha, sometimes referred to as Gautama Buddha, cradling a small sheep while standing in a shallow stream amongst lotus blossoms. A larger sheep stands at one side, looking upward. Tagore was an important artist and principal proponent of the Bengal school. In addition to his artistic practice, he was also a noted writer and was the nephew of Rabindranath Tagore and brother to Gagendranath Tagore. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
