Rare percussion instruments are those that are less commonly found or used compared to more mainstream percussion instruments like drums, cymbals, and tambourines. Here are some examples:

Hang Drum: The Hang Drum, also known as the Hang, is a relatively recent percussion instrument invented in Switzerland in 2000. It has a unique UFO-like shape with indentations, and its ethereal, resonant sound has made it popular among musicians worldwide. Due to its complex construction and limited production, it's considered rare and sought after.

Waterphone: The Waterphone is an unusual percussion instrument that consists of a stainless steel resonator bowl with rods of different lengths and thicknesses attached. When the instrument is played, it creates haunting, ethereal sounds reminiscent of underwater or alien atmospheres. It's often used in film scores and experimental music but is relatively rare.

Glass Harp: The Glass Harp, also known as the Glass Armonica or Glass Harmonica, is an instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century. It consists of a series of glass bowls or goblets of varying sizes arranged in a row. When the rims of the glasses are rubbed with moistened fingers, they produce musical tones. Due to its delicate construction and unique sound, it's considered rare today.

Tongue Drum: The Tongue Drum is a percussion instrument with a series of tuned metal or wooden tongues arranged on a resonant chamber. Each tongue is tuned to a specific pitch, and the instrument is played by striking the tongues with mallets or fingers. While not as well-known as some other percussion instruments, the Tongue Drum has gained popularity in recent years, especially among enthusiasts of world music.

Octoban: The Octoban is a set of cylindrical, tuned drums developed by Tama Drums in the late 1970s. They are typically made of fiberglass or acrylic and come in various lengths to produce different pitches. While they have been used by some prominent drummers in certain musical genres, they are still relatively rare compared to standard drum kit components.

Log Drum: The Log Drum, also known as the Slit Drum, is a traditional percussion instrument found in various cultures around the world. It consists of a hollowed-out log or wooden tube with slits cut into the top. When struck with mallets, the slits produce different pitches. While it has historical significance in certain cultures, it's not as commonly used in contemporary music, making it relatively rare.

These are just a few examples of rare percussion instruments, but there are many others out there, each with its own unique sound and history. Submit if you want our experts to review and give you an appraisal
