What does this mean?

Dear Matt,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and for your patience.

Based on these images this is a Mia Chinese Cabinet, from mid 20th century China. It comes in an extensive range of finishes and colours, features a solid wood carcass, and has chromed or brushed natural brass handles and hinges. Its design fits in seamlessly with any kind of furnishings (classic, modern or rustic) and the wide choice of sizes and models means you will have no problem finding room for it.

Items like these are called wedding cabinets, part of a dowry, and meant to hold the bride’s clothing, etc. when she moved into her new home. It’s a beautiful piece, like many other antique wedding cabinets on the market. However, they are not highly valued at this time. Perhaps this will change in the future. The market for Chinese antiques and art has been growing over the last decades with the growth of the Chinese economy generally. Based on sales of similar cabinets, the Fair Market Value of this piece is between $2500 and $3500.

I had it originally appraised at $3,500

Hi David, I wanted to ask you if your appraisal is correct. I had it appraised over a year ago and I was told it was worth over $3500. I was told it is a collectible item that has the original paint from a certain area of China and that they can sell for up to $4000. I have to admit I find your appraisal extremely low, can I have a second opinion please. And can you please explain where you got your information from. I appreciate it

Hello Matt, thank you for your comments. Indeed, there has been a typo error but it has been corrected (a 0 was missing). Thank you for your understanding.
