This is a vintage, later 20th century, dated 1981, large-sized 35.5" high bas-relief sand stone work of art depicting a native tribal dancer that was created by self-promoting artist Susan Popko and entitled 'Masked Dancer". Popko earned a BFA in painting and art education from the University of Illinois in 1972 afterwhich she became an art teacher in Texas. Her works are influenced by ancient archaeological finds from South America and the American Southwest and usually depict indigenous tribal cultures. She developed her own medium of sculpted bas-relief sand and stone that she calls 'sculptured sand painting. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables.
