Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a 1970s or 1980s batik painting depicting a young man "softening reeds". The batik is signed Ella Neumann or Eva Neumann. This artist is apparently not identical with the artist Ella Neumann from Scotland. The style and signatures are quite different. Another painting by the same artist depicting a scene from Greece was unsuccessfully offered at auction nearly ten years ago. Batik in general never really lost the connotation that it is just applied arts. Hence prices for batik art are generally quite modest. The estimate is based on similar works of art by lesser known artists.
