Persian pitcher?
26 June 2018
Description

Very heavy bronze or brass pitcher? Wondered where it was from, the age and value. There is an X etched on the bottom. Calligraphy of some sort on the side.

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a mid 20th century persian tinned copper pitcher. The local craftsmen tend to use the rather easy to incise copper. Bronze, a very hard alloy of copper and pewter, would be very unlikely. Such jugs are quite common and are still being made in rural arears to be sold to tourists. The estimate is based on similar sold or offered at auctions. "Asking prices" in the trade can be higher and vary.
