Alex Katz

The American figurative artist Alex Katz is one of the most widely-exhibited artists of his generation, whose artworks can be found in museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Tate Gallery.Katz’s success began in the 1950s with his first contributions to the Pop Art movement. The essence of the subjects of his paintings is portrayed through the effective combination of bold contours and strong colors. Katz’s portraits are believed to expose people’s inner truth using a remarkably American language.

Alex Katz broke auction records in the contemporary art auctions held by Sotheby’s with the oils on canvas Red Tulips and The Red Scarf (Ada in polo coat), sold respectively for 690,600 USD and 569,000 USD.
